A foreign sorcerer steps from smoke and blood inside the ruined palace, saying he heard a soul crying out for vengeance. He offers Sarah the wealth and power to reverse her fate and save her daughter, but makes clear that every gift carries a bloody price. Sarah asks what the bargain will cost. The answer includes the kingdom's treasure and, more personally, years from Sarah's own life. As her daughter convulses and bleeds, Sarah says she would give anything to save her. The sorcerer presents a written pact, forcing Sarah to choose between an immediate loss and the only power that appears capable of helping her child.
